3 Delicious Flavours of Nice Cream

As the weather warms up, it’s more and more tempting to put down those hot brownies and reach for those cold scoops of ice cream. But what if we told you that you can enjoy all the flavour of your favourite ice cream with only half the calorie content? Enjoy sweet ice cream treats without the guilt this summer by trying these nice cream recipes – the kids will love them too! 

Banana cinnamon nice cream

Banana and cinnamon may very well be the perfect flavour combination. The fruity taste of banana combined with a touch of cinnamon makes this ice cream sweet enough to enjoy at any time of day. It’s easy and tasty, and the only calories come from the dates and banana! This is truly a dessert where you won’t feel bad reaching for seconds. 

Prep time: 5 - 10 mins

Serves: 2

Ingredients

2 large frozen bananas

2 medjool dates

1 tablespoon almond milk (cow’s milk works too)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Optional: chopped nuts 

Method

1. Place frozen banana and dates into a food processor or blender. 

2. Blend until the mixture starts to become crumbly.

3. Using a spatula, scrape the sides of the mixture down.

4. Add the almond milk and cinnamon.

5. Blend a little longer until the mixture turns into a soft-serve consistency. 

6. Serve immediately or put in a sealed container in the freezer for 30 minutes if you prefer a firmer consistency. 

7. Top with chopped nuts to serve if desired. Enjoy!

Mango coconut nice cream

Nothing says summer like delicious, juicy mango. Make the most of this fruit while it is in season by whipping it up into the perfect after-dinner treat. Imagine cooling down on a hot day with a bowlful of this mango, coconut and banana ice cream – it doesn’t get much better than that!

1 cup frozen mango pieces

1 large frozen banana

1 tablespoon coconut milk 

1 tablespoon coconut flakes or shredded coconut to serve

Method

1. Place frozen banana and mango into a food processor or blender. 

2. Blend until the mixture starts to become crumbly.

3. Using a spatula, scrape the sides of the mixture down.

4. Add the coconut milk.

5. Blend a little longer until the mixture turns into a soft-serve consistency. 

6. Top with coconut flakes or shredded coconut to serve. Fruity and tropical – delicious! 

Berry nice sorbet

If berry is more to your taste, you are going to love this berry sorbet. With no added milk, this is a mixture that is high in nutrients and antioxidants yet very low in calories.

Ingredients

1 large frozen banana

1 tablespoon apple or pineapple juice 

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

1/4 cup frozen blueberries (or raspberries)

Optional: Cacao nibs to top

Method

1. Place frozen banana and berries into a food processor or blender. 

2. Blend until the mixture starts to become crumbly.

3. Using a spatula, scrape the sides of the mixture down.

4. Add the juice. 

5. Blend a little longer until the mixture turns into a soft-serve consistency. 

6. Serve immediately and top with a sprinkle of cacao nibs if desired.
