Dips are a real crowd pleaser, whatever the occasion. There are creamy, cheesy dips for a taste of indulgence. Or you can go healthy with vegetable-based dips served with veggie sticks. Plus, if you know the right recipes, you can whip up a dip in just a few minutes – here’s how.
Spinach and cheese dip
To make 3 cups, thaw a 500g packet of frozen spinach, squeezing out excess liquid. Add 300g fresh ricotta, a 300g carton sour cream, a 35g packet of French onion soup mix and 2 tbsp shaved parmesan. Stir until combined. Season with salt and pepper and serve with crusty bread.
To make three cups, drain and rinse a 600g can of chickpeas and place in a food processor. Add 4 cloves crushed garlic, a splash of olive oil and 2 tbs tahini paste, a sesame seed paste available in health food stores and major supermarkets. Add a pinch of paprika and a good squeeze of lemon juice. Process until smooth and enjoy.
Carrot and cumin dip
To make a bowl to serve 8 guests, peel and chop 1kg of carrots and cook in a saucepan of boiling water for 30 minutes, until tender. Drain the carrots and add ¼ cup olive oil, a pinch of cumin, 2 cloves crushed garlic and a splash of orange juice. Process until smooth and enjoy.
Creamy tuna dip
To make a bowl to serve 8 guests, drain a 185g can tuna in spring water and place in a bowl. Add 125g cream cheese, ¼ finely chopped red onion, 1 tbsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp drained capers. Sprinkle with parsley leaves and ground pepper to serve.
